The network of environmental protection systems at Chiquita Canyon starts with a composite liner system that prevents the disposed solid waste from impacting the soil and groundwater.
Environmental Protections
Groundwater monitoring wells are strategically placed throughout the site to ensure that landfill operations do not affect groundwater quality.
Storm water runoff is collected and contained in sedimentation ponds that allow soil particles to settle out of the water before being discharged off the property.
A leachate collection system drains and collects rainwater and other liquids in the landfill. Once collected, the liquid is transported off-site to a wastewater treatment facility.
Methane gas produced naturally by decomposing waste is collected and disposed of in an environmentally safe manner.
The environmental protection systems in place meet all state and federal regulations.
