As of January 1, 2025, Chiquita Canyon Landfill is closed for the acceptance of waste. Chiquita Canyon, LLC will continue to manage the landfill, including addressing the elevated temperature landfill event that is affecting the northwest corner of the landfill, as well as closure and post-closure activities. While active waste disposal operations have closed, we remain committed to working with federal, state and local regulators on the ongoing reaction mitigation efforts.

Tire-derived Aggregate Used At Chiquita
Chiquita Canyon has utilized tire-derived aggregate (TDA) as a substitute for gravel in its landfill gas collection system. This project incorporated approximately 1,470 tons of Type A TDA, which diverted a total of 147,123 California waste tires from the waste stream. The project was funded in part by a grant from CalRecycle.
