Under the new Condition 81 of the August 27, 2024 Modified Stipulated Order for Abatement in Case No. 6177-4, Chiquita Canyon, LLC (Chiquita) is required to notify the community (i) if any individual control device has downtime which is anticipated to last 30 minutes or more or once any downtime for an individual control device reaches 30 minutes of downtime or (ii) if the downtime of any combination of landfill gas collection equipment results or is planned to result in a reduction of gas flow to control devices by 10% or more and the downtime is anticipated to last 30 minutes or more or once any downtime for such devices reach 30 minutes of downtime.
On Thursday, September 19, 2024, Chiquita experienced unplanned downtime of its Zeeco thermal oxidizer at approximately 6:20 am, 6:57 am, and 7:50 am, for a total of 1.5 hours, due to high flow failure. To limit planned downtime in the future, the Zeeco thermal oxidizer’s flow meter was removed and cleaned during this unplanned event; therefore, the planned downtime for Friday, September 20, 2024 will not be needed. Chiquita is not aware of increased odors in the community during this downtime.
Chiquita continues to work to diligently comply with regulator orders.
