Chiquita Canyon Landfill issues the following statement:
Chiquita Canyon Landfill (CCL) remains committed to the containment of the reaction that is causing the ETLF conditions at its site. To this end, CCL’s teams (made up of internal team members and nationally recognized ETLF reaction experts) analyze, on an ongoing basis, a mountain of data including: gas well head data including composition and temperature, gas well leachate level readings, leachate pump operational data, topographic settlement rates, surface emissions results, and temperature monitoring probe data, in addition to many others.
CCL disagrees with a number of statements and allegations made by some of its regulators and the conclusions they are drawing from the data. CCL believes the data show that the mitigation efforts undertaken to date have had positive results to the stated goal of slowing the reaction. CCL’s ongoing analysis of this data guides current and future actions to address the reaction and mitigate its impacts. These mitigation measures have been implemented in the last 18 months with transparency and oversight from and collaboration with our many federal, state and local regulators.
While we may disagree with our regulators on some points, the fact remains that we stand ready to continue working with them to address the reaction and mitigate its impacts.
