Alert: Landfill Gas Collection and Control Equipment Unplanned Down Time on 6/19/2026 at 2:49 am; Resumed Operation on 6/19/2026 by 8:09 am
As noticed this morning, on Friday, June 19, 2026, Chiquita experienced unplanned downtime of Flare 3 at 2:49 am due to a sitewide power shutdown. Although field technicians restarted all other units affected by the power shutdown by 5:59 am, Flare 3 remained offline to allow previously scheduled filter maintenance to be completed. This downtime lasted for 4 hours and 44 minutes, and Flare 3 resumed operation at 7:33 am. Additionally, during the restart of Flare 3, Flare 2 experienced a separate shutdown at 7:39 am. This downtime lasted for 30 minutes, and Flare 2 resumed operation at 8:09 am. Due to these downtimes, there was a possibility of increased odors in the community during the indicated time period.
Under Condition 81 of the Modified Stipulated Order for Abatement in Case No. 6177-4, Chiquita Canyon, LLC (Chiquita) is required to notify the community (i) if any individual control device has downtime which is anticipated to last 30 minutes or more or once any downtime for an individual control device reaches 30 minutes of downtime or (ii) if the downtime of any combination of landfill gas collection equipment results or is planned to result in a reduction of gas flow to control devices by 10% or more and the downtime is anticipated to last 30 minutes or more or once any downtime for such devices reach 30 minutes of downtime. Pursuant to Condition 81, Chiquita is also required to notify the community once the gas collection and control equipment has resumed operation.
Chiquita continues to work to diligently comply with regulator orders.
