KHTS – Three New Val Verde Leadership Board Members Elected

Robert Talamantez, Jamie Briano, Carolina Lopez, Erica Larsen and Kevin Smalley competed for one of three open spots on the Val Verde Community Benefits Committee.

Talamantez came out on top with 129 votes, Lopez close behind with 124 votes followed by Briano with 119 votes, Smalley with 25 votes and Larsen with 23 votes. The top three were given spots on the Val Verde Community Benefits Committee.

The Val Verde Community Benefits Committee is a funding organization that receives $360,000 annually from the Chiquita Canyon Landfill. The money comes from a 1997 agreement between the Val Verde community and the Chiquita Canyon Landfill.

Smalley and Larsen, who came in fourth and fifth, are both leaders in the anti-landfill Citizens For Chiquita Canyon Landfill Compliance.

Chiquita Canyon Proudly Supports Bridge to Home Fundraiser

Chiquita Canyon is proud to support the third annual Soup for the Soul fundraiser, hosted by Bridge to Home. The homeless shelter fundraiser will take place on Saturday, Nov. 14 from 5 – 9 p.m. at SAVIA, the Newhall campus for Real Life Church.

At the event Bridge to Home will recognize clients, staff, and donors who, working together, bring about transformation in the lives of many people in the community.


Bridge to Home is Santa Clarita’s Homeless Service Agency. Bridge to Home provides emergency winter shelter from November to March, and also runs The Bridge, a year-round case management office.Bridge to Home provides an array of dental, medical, life skills and referral services to those experiencing homelessness or the threat of becoming homeless.
